Some outfits outshined others in this year’s Met Gala, but the crown was definitely taken by Punjabi-pop singer Diljit Dosanjh.
Diljit turned up to the blue carpet in full regal, royal and elegance in a majestic outfit. Dressed by Prabal Gurung, Diljit delivered a look that blended his roots with the fashion statements he’s used to making. However the main highlights of his outfit was his necklace.
Diljit's team had their minds set on borrowing the most iconic pieces of jewellery in Indian ‘the Patiala Necklace’.
Commissioned by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala in 1928 and crafted by Cartier, the original necklace is nothing but stunning. At its centre was a massive 234-carat De Beers yellow diamond which was again surrounded by nearly 3,000 other diamonds. Today its estimated worth is $2.5 billion (Rs 1,000+ crore).
However when the team reached out to Cartier to see if they would lend the historical necklace for the big night as they had done for Emma Chamberlin back in 2022 where she wore a part of the bigger necklace as a choker, they were straight up refused for it as “it has been put in a museum for display purposes”.
This reaction has prompted a series of mixed reactions all over the internet and has led to people talking about the famed necklace again. Diljit’s team however found another way of getting back into the game and took a blow at Cartier and tribute.
His team commissioned Indian jewellers Golecha to craft the jewellery inspired by the Maharaja's collection, including a standout turban brooch which when paired up with the Ivory outfit of Diljit looked nothing short of stunning.
