This particular film was released in 1991 and it was the most expensive film ever made in India with a budget of Rs 10 crore. But, the film's total collection was around Rs 8 crore.
The plot centers around an honest police officer who investigates an organ trafficking racket. He soon discovers that it is operated by Daddy, a criminal, under the guise of an orphanage.
The film we are talking about is Shanti Kranti. It was directed and produced by V. Ravichandran. The film had the country's biggest superstars- Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna and Juhi Chawla.
The film was Kannada actor and director V Ravichandran’s dream project. Shanti Kranti was released in four languages- Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. V Ravichandran starred as a hero in the Kannada version.
While, Rajinikanth acted in the Tamil and Hindi versions, Nagarjuna starred in the Telugu one. Juhi Chawla, Khushbu, and Anant Nag were part of all the three versions.
The film Kranti, despite its star-studded cast, massive budget, and extensive promotion, failed to impress audiences and critics alike, ultimately resulting in a significant box office loss of around Rs 8 crore. The plot's lack of relatability and negative reviews further contributed to its commercial failure.
Ravichandran wrote, directed, and produced the film, suffered a significant financial setback after Shanti Kranti’s failure, going bankrupt despite investing heavily in grand sets. He later bounced back by taking on smaller projects and remakes.
