The actress's iconic role still resonates with fans, and this continues with her co-stars and other team members on multiple projects. In a recent conversation, she revealed that her typecasting follows her onto film sets, where crew members jokingly refer to her as naagin even when she is working in other projects - like her upcoming film, in which she plays a ghost.
The 39-year-old actress Mouni Roy rose to fame after she played the lead in the TV series Naagin. Later, she was seen essaying the role of a sorceress in Brahmastra. She is now set to star as a ghost in her upcoming project, The Bhootnii.
Mouni Roy joked about how co-actor Asif Khan still referred to her as Naagin even when she was dressed as a ghost in her upcoming horror-comedy film. According to Mouni, both Naagin and Bhootni are affectionate terms and she takes pride in both the characters.
Mouni recently discussed her experience while playing strong female characters and opened up on facing trolls and mockery despite her powerful on-screen performances. In a recent chat with Zoom Mouni said, I just think that as an actor, we all love our craft and what we do.
Mouni added, When you are doing a genre which is a historical or a fantasy fiction or a mythological character, if you don't have the conviction as an actor, the audience are never going to believe you. You can't fool them. You can't fool anybody. But if you truly believe in the world that you are put in, that these characters are actual people, if you live their journey and do it honestly, audiences also kind of resonate.”
Mouni Roy believes that since cinema and TV serve as an escape for audiences, it's an actor's responsibility to convincingly transport them into the story. Who is not looking for an escape. Everybody comes to a theater for an escape, for entertainment, to take a good story back home. It has to have a feel good factor and has to make them feel something. And when they feel something, I think the character somewhere stays with them, she said.
In the film The Bhootnii, Mouni plays the role of a ghost named Mohabbat. The film is directed by Sidhaant Sachdev and produced by Deepak Mukut. The film features an interesting cast including Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Singh, Palak Tiwari, Aasif Khan, and YouTuber Beyounick.
