Salman Khan's movie Sultan produced under the banner of YRF was a commercial success. Anushka Sharma played the leading lady in the movie. The film that revolved around a wrestler was directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. But did you know that before Anushka Sharma, there was another actress who auditioned for the role?
We are talking about Anupria Goenka. The actress in a recent chat with Siddharth Kannan revealed that she gave around 11 to 12 test auditions for the movie Sultan. However, she wasn't selected for the role and it was quite heart breaking.
Describing the audition process, Anupria Goenka said, 'Maine Sultan ke liye audition kiya tha, main part. Tab voh log naye logo ko dhoond rahe the. Mere kuch 11-12 test hue the… pehle ek audition hua tha, phir doosra audition hua, phir there was a music video test, phir there was a dance test with Vaibhavi (Merchant), and then there were readings with Ali (Abbas Zafar).'
The actress further shared that the process went on for a month. She was thankful that it did not go beyond a month as it would keep her anxious. She didn't even know that she was auditioning for Sultan until she met director Ali Abbas Zafar.
She explained that YRF does not provide with the original script during the auditions. 'Jab tak main Ali se nahi mili, mujhe pata bhi nahi tha ki Sultan ki baat ho rahi hai because YRF main they don’t give you the actual script. They give you some other script and they make you audition on that… It was only when I met Ali and he kept referring to ‘Mr Khan’, then I realised ki this is for Sultan and the main part,' she said.
She was heartbroken after she did not get the role. She mentioned that she isn't a 'typical YRF heroine' after all. She said 'The whole process was very heartbreaking when I didn’t get it, of course… Ek toh I’m dusky, which I’m very proud of. I love being dusky. But I’m not a typical YRF heroine, right? I do not have the most shapely legs….'.
Sultan is among the most successful films in Salman Khan's career. It made around Rs 623 crore worldwide at the box office. Salman and Anushka both received immense critical acclaim for their performances.
As per reports, Kangana Ranaut too was offered Sultan. However, the actress confirmed that she rejected both - Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
