In a viral video, influencer Sarthak Sachdeva claims that Gauri Khan's restaurant Torii serves him fake paneer and also performs iodine tincture tests.
Gauri Khan, the wife of renowned superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is an interior designer who has designed spaces for high-profile individuals and many more. She also owns a restaurant, Torii, in Mumbai.
Now, Gauri’s restaurant Torii is under scrutiny after a social media influencer, Sarthak Sachdeva, claimed that they served ‘fake paneer’ to him. The influencer shared the video on Instagram and the video quickly went viral.
However, in a few hours, the restaurant management responded to it in the comments section. While sharing the video, the YouTuber captioned the video as ‘Fake Paneer?’
In the video he shared, he is seen performing an iodine tincture test, on a piece of paneer served at the restaurant. This test, which is commonly used to detect the presence of starch, turned the paneer black and blue when the iodine touched it.
When the iodine touched the paneer, it turned black and blue. Sarthak declared it as ‘adulterated’ and said, “Shah Rukh Khan ke restaurant mein paneer nakli tha. Ye dekh ke mere toh hosh udd gaye the.
The influencer conducted a food quality test at several celebrity-owned restaurants, including those of Virat Kohli, Shilpa Shetty, and Bobby Deol, and was pleased with the results. However, he expressed disappointment with the food at Gauri Khan's restaurant.
After the video went viral, the restaurant management team responded in the comment and wrote, “The iodine test reflects the presence of starch, not the authenticity of the paneer. As the dish contains soy-based ingredients, this reaction is expected. We stand by the purity of our paneer and the integrity of our ingredients at Torii.
As of now, Gauri Khan has not yet responded to the video. The restaurant, Torii is located in Pali Hill, Bandra, is an 82-seater pan-Asian restaurant. It was started by Gauri in February 2024.
