John Abraham is currently garnering appreciation and accolades for his latest theatrical release The Diplomat. The actor is being hailed for his nuanced performance, and playing a character that is far apart from the action hero image he is known for. The film directed by Shivam Nair, also starring the talented Sadia Khateeb is playing in theatres right now and the box office collections have been mounting due to great word of mouth.
We recently sat down with John Abraham for the latest episode of Spotlight With Smrity and while we spoke about The Diplomat, we were also curious to know about his collaboration with a director, with whom he has given two amazing movies that are two of his best works till date. John has worked with the celebrated director Shoojit Sircar in Vicky Donor (as a producer). It was directed by Shoojit and starred Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead. He then worked in Sircar’s direction Madras Cafe, which was also produced by John Abraham Films. However, after these two wonderful projects, the two didn’t work together and that is something we wanted to dig deeper on.

John was quick to share, “The last time we met was Piku (starring Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan). Aapko yaad hai woh travel agency that Irrfan Khan has? That travel agency is my office. That was the last time we met and we were in touch after that for a brief bit. But after that Shoojit also got very busy with his projects, he did October (starring Varun Dhawan) and a couple of other films and at the same time I got busy with my work. We have been in touch occasionally.”
Talking about the possibility of a future collaboration, John said, “Of course, we love to work with directors that we have gelled with so will love to work with him someday soon.”
So that’s some manifestation right there. We hope that we get to see this hit actor/producer-director jodi soon on the big screen with some amazing content. Till then, The Diplomat is playing in theatres near you, so go and watch.
