Jahnavi Kapoor was born to actress Sridevi and filmmaker Boney Kapoor on 7 March 1997. She has a younger sister, Khushi and two half-siblings, actors Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor. She is the niece of actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor. He attended Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai. Prior to making his film debut, he took an acting course at the Lee Strasburg Theater & Film Institute in California. She made her acting debut in 2018 with the romantic drama film Dhadak, which was a commercial success and earned the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut.

The film received mainly negative reviews, but worldwide gained collection of ₹ 1.1 billion, it proved to be a commercial success.
