Keep reading to know more about the actor who struggled hard despite his famous parents. Shahid Kapoor, the son of veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor and classical dancer Neelima Azeem, had to combat several difficulties to make his name in the industry.
In a recent conversation with Raj Shamani, Shahid walked down the memory lane and revealed that he had to give hundreds of auditions and stayed in a rented flat without money for basic needs.
He said, “My father is a character actor, and my mom has been a Kathak dancer since she was 15 years old. I have lived in rented houses. I have given many auditions so I don’t have that sense of privilege. Some people struggle in a BMW, they start their journey by working with the top two-three directors in the country. I came after giving 250 auditions.”
Shahid spoke his heart out about his financial struggles during his early years in Bollywood. He said, Today, people say that Shahid’s fashion sense is so good, and sometimes, I laugh at things like this, because I remember at one point, I didn’t have enough money to buy clothes in Lokhandwala market. I went through a very long phase of feeling victimized by my circumstances.
Shahid's hard work paid off as he made his debut in 2003 with Ishq Vishq. He gained massive popularity with his films like Vivaah, Haider, Udta Punjab, Padmaavat, and Kabir Singh.
Shahid proved his versatility as an actor by working across all genres, and taking up varied roles. He was last seen in Deva alongside Pooja Hegde. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the film released on January 31, 2025.
