Despite their proven on-screen chemistry, Priyanka Chopra reportedly backed out of a planned film with Salman Khan just five days before shooting was set to begin in 2019, dashing expectations of a potential blockbuster.
Bharat film
The film in question is Bharat (2019), with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif eventually starring together. For the fact that filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar and Salman Khan have collaborated in films like Sultan (2016) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). Priyanka Chopra was initially approached for the lead role opposite Salman, but she opted out at the last minute.

Priyanka Chopra reportedly exited the film Bharat five days before shooting due to her relationship with Nick Jonas. As per reports, Salman Khan was furious and later mocked her during the film's promotion. However, Katrina Kaif eventually replaced Priyanka in the film.

During a random conversation, Salman said, “Over Bharat, she chose USA in the ‘nick’ of time. She has worked all her life so hard and when she got the biggest film of her life, she dumped the film and got married. Hats off! Usually, people leave their husbands for this.

Salman further added, “Thank you, Priyanka! I will always be thankful to her. Bharat was about to go on the floors and just five days before the shooting, Priyanka met me and said that she wouldn’t be able to work in the film. Now, if Priyanka hadn’t left Bharat, how could we have brought Katrina on board.”

Replying to the issue, Priyanka said, “The only thing I’d say is that if there was a reaction required you’d have had it by now. Salman is amazing. I’ve always admired him. He came for Nick (Jonas) and my reception. We went to his house. I'm really close to his sister (Arpita Khan). So, there’s never an issue with him.”
Bharat earning
After Priyanka's exit, Salman Khan reportedly approached Katrina Kaif to star in Bharat, which also featured Sunil Grover, Jackie Shroff, Disha Patani, and Tabu in key roles. Released on Eid, the film was a commercial success, grossing over Rs 320 crore.
