Prior to the final game, the “highs” & “lows”, the “peaks” & “troughs” of the Indian team as they navigate their way through to the final game are very well captured. Ranveer Singh sets a benchmark in acting with his excellent skills & has taken his career to new heights by playing Kapil Dev to perfection.
He has mastered Kapil’s mannerisms, his strong Haryanvi accent, body language, pauses in his speech & the famous “Nataraja” shot. Jiva as Srikanth gives us enough moments of laughter mimicking his clumsiness, the characteristic eye blinking and his strong South Indian accent. Saquib plays the role of Jimmy Amarnath very well. Pankaj Tripati, one of the finest actors in Bollywood plays the role of manager Man Singh with aplomb! Boman Irani does a fabulous job as the commentator and ex-cricketer-Farooq Engineer. Deepika Padukone adds some glamour to the movie with her brief role as Kapil Dev’s wife Romi.

Ranveer Singh and the crew hit it out of the pavilion, literally, as they portrayed every character with true love, gratitude and respect for them. Deepika played her small role so wonderfully that she just slowly delved into the plot and stole out hearts.
This is a beautiful work of craftsmanship by Kabir Khan, as he has amalgamated the truth, with emotion, love, and a little tinge of fiction. It just felt deeply personal to everyone in the theatre, even people who weren’t even born at the time of the incident.
People were clapping and cheering when the movie barely started and it only increased as the movie progressed. This depicts Indians’ love for cricket and everything related, as it is the only thing which brings people together no matter what!
Certainly ons of my best films of 2021 and what a great way to end the year. This movie deserves every award and a view by everyone who loves cricket or good cinema. It’s worth a watch, and anyone who goes to the theatre is going to cherish every one of those 152 minutes they’re going to be there.
