Chhaava is an adaptation of the Marathi novel with the same name. The novel is written by Shivaji Sawant. While Vicky Kaushal essays the role of Sambhaji, Akshaye Khanna plays Aurangzeb.
Laxman Utekar had rfecently stated that he read about Sambhaji Maharaj during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the time he got inspired to consider the novel for a cinematic adaptation. “Everyone knows about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, but no one knows about Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He had such great courage and was a great warrior, but sadly no one knows about it. During the pandemic [COVID-19], when I read about Sambhaji Maharaj, I realised he is such a big character, and why are we not talking about his life? That’s when I started writing and the idea of Chhaava came to me,” Laxman told India Today.
If the film finds more takers it could even topple Gully Boy, which holds the record for the highest grosser among Valentine’s Day releases. Currently, Ranveer Singh’s Gully Boy is the biggest opener on Valentine’s Day with a collection of 19.40 crores.
